It is heavy and stays in place. This is my second Strathwood mat. Will by again. Recommend this product. Half-moon or rectangular, either one's great I first bought the half-moon doormat when I stumbled on it in a Friday Sale. I liked the look so much that when the rectangular version showed up on a subsequent Friday Sale, I ordered one of those, too. I've been pleased with both. The plusses: * They look very nice with the scrollwork. There are minor differences in the scrollwork between the two styles, necessary because of the difference in shapes. * They're heavy and won't blow around. Perhaps more importantly, they tend to "grab" the surface they're on, so they won't slip or skid. * Rain won't pool as it might on a solid mat, although if the mat is on a very smooth surface, water may build up in the holes in the scrollwork if it can't drain out. I can't vouch for how they'd work in snow (I'm in southern California, after all!). The minuses (and they're very minor): * As at least one other review noted, the mats have a rubbery smell initially. In the outdoors, the odor dissipates fairly rapidly. * Small bits of debris can collect in the holes in the scrollwork (dropped coins, too!). Periodically raising the mat and sweeping or washing the underlying surface solves that easily, and you'd do that anyway to clean your porch. Welcome to my home This is a wonderful way to welcome guests to my home. Their feet are clean when they enter!!! Exactly what I wanted I changed from French Doors to a sliding glass door just so I could have a mat on both the inside and outside of the back door to our often-used backyard. The day the workers were putting the door in I got on Amazon and found exactly what I wanted - this mat. It's on the outdoor side, sitting on a wood deck. The texture keeps the cat from sitting on it and the open spaces let the dirt fall off the shoes before walking inside. It looks sturdy and like it will last. Nice mat spent too much Mat is very nice however found something similar at Walmart for a 1/3 of the price.
